Beginners Beauty Guide: Affordable Makeup PT 3!

Hey Glamers!
The beginners beauty guide series is going strong! Now that I've covered the base, and application tools, today's topic we will be discussing affordable setting powders and bronzers.

Bronzers are a way to bring back warmth to the face. Often times you can look washed out after applying foundation and concealer. To balance out the face further I feel bronzers are very important.
Once you've set you've applied your base it is very important to set it all in place. Especially if you have oily skin or concealed under the eyes, you want to ensure your makeup last and doesn't slip and slide around (or transfer).

1.Bronzers
Bronzers can be a little tricky, especially for those of us with darker skin tones. In general Bronzers can come in various shades, but those shades will have different undertones.
This goes back to Part 1 of knowing your shade. This will help you pick the right bronzer for your skintone.

Not very many affordable brands make a wide range of bronzers for deeper skin tones, but these are the brands I found have worked the best for me.

The NYX Cheek and Contour Duo is my holy grail drugstore bronzer! Not only do you get a blush in this duo, the undertone of this bronzer is everything! I use the shade Wine & Dine, it is the perfect everyday cool tone bronzer for deeper skin tones. They offer 6  different shades so it caters to a range of skin tones. It's not the best shade range but for the drugstore it's pretty good.

My next favorite drugstore favorite is from the Cover Girl Queen Collection, and it is their Natural Hue Bronzer in the shade Ebony Bronze/120. I LOVE this bronzer, it really warms up the skin especially for the summer months. It does have a more warm/red undertone so I use this product very lightly but dusted over top of the NYX bronzer and its a match made in heaven.

This product is not a "bronzer" per say but there are no rules in makeup! I love using the Black Radiance Pressed Powder in Ebony is one of my favorite shades to bronze with. They have 11 different color ranges which means the lightest to the darkest of skin tones can use these powders.

*tip: If you're having trouble finding a light/deep enough shade to bronze or contour with, try using a matte eyeshadow. Just because it's labeled as an "eye" product doesn't mean it has only one purpose. Remember there are no rules here! :)

2. Setting Powders
Setting your foundation or concealer is very important in your makeup routine. Depending on your skin type you may want to set your all over face (for oily skin) or just areas where you've applied concealer (all skin types).
I don't typically set my all over face unless I'm using a very dewy foundation, because my skin is very dry most powders will cling to my dry patches :(

Some people may be lucky enough to get away with not setting their under eyes after concealing, but in most cases you want to set this area, whether you are "baking" or simply setting the concealer into place. This is like a security blanket because under eye creasing can make you look older, and it just doesn't look good (in my opinion).

My favorite drugstore setting powder is the NYC Smooth Skin Loose Setting Powder! Let me just tell you!!! For a $4 translucent setting powder I couldn't recommend anything better! I do not bake with this product, even though it is translucent I find it I use too much I will get some flashback. I think for lighter skin tones you will be just fine baking with this product.

Maybelline offers another affordable setting powder. The FaceStudio Master Fix Setting + Perfecting Loose Powder is very nice and buttery. It works for all skin tones if you're not baking. Going in heavy handed with this product on deeper skin tones will cause some cakeyness and flashback (be careful of that)

Another great affordable product, which is a 2 in one is the Wet n' Wild Megaglo Contouring Palette. Now I want to mention this for the sake of the quality of the product. This is NOT WOC friendly by any means for contouring. They only offer 2 shades which is very frustrating when brands to this but the quality of the overall product is impressive.

They have a very soft buttery formula which I love. I use the shade Dulce de Leche. I like using the "contour" shade to set my overall face for foundations that are tacky to the touch and it just melts right into your skin. The highlighting powder is a nice buttery banana color shade which is great for setting concealer. I like using this with a damp sponge rather than a brush, I find it sets into the under eyes better.

I could go on for days about other products that I love but these are the few I wanted to mention that I think perform beautifully. Not all of the products are WOC friendly unfortunately but in makeup you can use these products in various way.

Comment other affordable bronzers and setting powders you're loving!
