Beginners Beauty Guide: Affordable Makeup PT 2!

Hey Glamers!
In today's beginners beauty guide series we will now focus on makeup application. Last week we discussed the base products in makeup, now lets talk about affordable brushes/ beauty sponges.

So many affordable brands have come out with some amazing brushes and beauty sponges. Especially beauty sponges, every brand is trying to come up with their own version of the original Beauty Blender. There are some hits and misses in this area so I will be recommending what I believe is the best of the best!

1. Brushes
Brushes can be very overwhelming because they serve so many different purposes. I find if you have a few great face brushes, the essential eye brushes to create a nice eye look you're pretty much set starting off. Most brands have brush collections that will get you a range of face and eye brushes, but those sometimes can run you $200+! If you're starting out in makeup there's no need to cash out on a set a brushes you have no idea what to do with.

Essential Brushes for the Face:
Face Brush
Powder Brush
Setting Powder Brush (for the under eye area)
Concealer Brush
Blush Brush
Contour Brush
*Highlight/Fan Brush* (if you're all about the glow)
These brushes pretty much explain themselves. Everything you will need to complete a full face application is right here. I know it seems like a lot but going with affordable brands, they give you the basics for a great price without the 100's of overwhelming options.

Essential Brushes for the Eyes:
Blending Brush (perfect for transition shades)
Small Tapered Blending Brush (more precise)
Shader Brush (pack on color/pigments)
Angled Brush (for a winged out affect)
Smudge Brush (blend out lower lash line)
Pencil Brush (more precise blending out lower lash line)
I wanted to give a small break down on eyeshadow brushes you'll need to complete a look. It would take a lot more time to fully explain the uses of every brush, but  I find these to be the most important in my opinion.

Wet n' Wild (walgreens/cvs) has yet again blown me away!! Next to E.L.F (target/walgreens/cvs etc.)they have really taken the cake for AMAZING affordable brushes! These brushes are incredible. They are so soft, apply product beautifully, I mean what more can you ask for!
If you're not crazy about brush collections the individual price on the face brushes are $2.99 and all the eye brushes are 0.99 cents...another STEAL! You can slowly build your collection this way as well.

BH Cosmetics Sculpt and Blend set is one of the first brush sets I purchased myself. It came not only with 5 large face brushes, you also get 5 smaller more precise face brushes that I find to be very nice for cream contour products or spot concealing application. The set I purchased was on Amazon, but this company is very affordable on it's own.

2. Beauty Sponges
Beauty sponges are literally everywhere now. I haven't tried them all of course, but the ones I have are definitely worth it. I find that I will reach for a beauty sponge far more often than a brush. The application is so flawless, it has multiple uses in one, and if you have dry skin that added hydration from using a damp sponge is a dream.

Benefits:
Quicker application (in my opinion)
You can blend out foundation, concealer, and cream contour all in one sponge
Set under eyes with setting powder
Overall flawless finish with every application (in my opinion)

If you're on the fence about whether or not you want to spend $20 the original Beauty Blender, an excellent alternative is the Real Techniques Miracle Collection Sponge. I'm sure most of you already know this but I believe it is a comparable substitute.
They are NOT dupes, I know a lot of people like to say that they are but they are definitely not. Until you use a Beauty Blender you'll know what I mean.

PUR Cosmetics Contour Blending Sponge is another affordable sponge that I have grown to like. Initially I hated it because it did not absorb water well. I felt it was still really stiff and was almost like blending out my foundation with a bag of sand (dramatic I know...lol). However, after a couple of washes I "broke it in" if you will. It is much softer and performs a lot better, in my opinion.

*remember: always clean your brushes and sponges regularly. Especially sponges, because you dampen them their shelf life isn't as long and they can build up bacteria. (skincare first!)
