Beauty Guide for Beginners: Affordable Makeup PT 1!

Hey Glamers!
Today's post will focus on affordable makeup for beginners. This will be a mini series I wanted to start on my blog to give some guidance and break down on affordable makeup products that I feel are essential for those starting out in makeup. If I tried to fit all of this in one post it would be a million miles long. Today we are going to focus on the base: primers, foundations, and concealers.

For those of you starting off in makeup can be overwhelming. There are so many different kinds of brushes, primers, foundations, bronzers, highlights! The list goes on! If you're just starting out and just trying to get a grasp on the basics of makeup, or if you're in the market for some amazing affordable items, this post is for you!

I think for anyone starting off in makeup there's no need trying to go Instagram baddie status and buying all these products, trying to cream contour, and the whole 9; it's too much and you might end up looking a little crazy.

1.Primers
Primers are important for a nice base for your foundation to lay. Knowing your skin type, and the overall look you are going for that day is what is going to help you choose whichever primer is going to work for you. I have dryer skin so I am always looking for something hydrating and moisturizing versus something that is more matte for those of you with oily skin.

Some one of my favorite hydrating drugstore primers is the Milani Prime Perfection Hydrating & Pore Minimizing Face Primer. This primer has a nice creamy feel to it, but it is not heavy. I find when applying it you give the skin a nice hydrating boost. I would highly recommend this product. I do not have large pores so as far as pore minimizing I don't know how well it does that.

NYX Angel Veil Primer is such an amazing product I can't even begin to tell you! It give your skin the most beautiful base for your makeup. Its very smoothing without being heavy on the skin. It's not your cheapest primer, this one will run you about $16 but its definitely worth it! Also a little goes a long way. (it's also said to be the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer dupe, and thats a $54 primer)

*tip - for primers, especially ones for smoothing or silicone based primers I find patting them in rather than rubbing helps them really sink into the skin better. Patting really pushes the product into the skin rather than rubbing which just sits on top of the skin.

2. Find your right shade
There is nothing worse than walking around with a foundation on that is not your shade. I remember when I was a beginner in makeup I had no idea what shade I was. There were times I would walk out of the house with a foundation on that was way too like giving me an ashy grey cast. It was terrible! If you haven't already don't make that mistake...lol. I know everyone usually test foundation on the back of their hands but  one of the the best place to test your foundation is on your chest, in my opinion. I find I get a better more accurate color test. My hands are not the same as my face because all the foundations I swathed on my hand look crazy on me, haaha! You can also test on your jawline. Its more difficult to color match in the drug store because not all drug stores offer testers. I recommend going into Sephora or Nordstrom will color match you right at the counter and you're good to go from there.

3. Foundations
Depending on how comfortable you are with foundation you can opt for a stick foundation or a liquid foundation.

I love how easy it is to apply a stick foundation and Maybelline makes an amazing one. The Maybelline FIT ME Shine-Free Foundation, gives you nice light weightless coverage and its so easy to apply.
One great affordable foundations from the drug store would be the Maybelline FIT Me Foundation. They have one for dry skin and oily skin so depending on your skin type this is a great beginners product. I have dry skin and prefer the FIT Me Matte and Poreless over the Dewy Smooth version. However, this is such an affordable product with amazing coverage.

HOT new product on the market! Wet n' Wild Photo Focus Foundation is my new favorite foundation. I won't touch too much on it because I do have a review coming up on this foundation very soon. It's only $5.99 and its freaking AMAZING! It definitely true to its claims because it photographs beautifully!!

4. Concealer
Concealer is pretty straight forward. Its great for spot concealing blemishes, under eye coverage, and you can just use it on those no makeup, makeup days when you're not feeling a full face. Some of my favorite affordable concealers are the NYX HD Photo Concealer, LA Girl HD Pro Concealer, or the Maybelline FIT ME concealer.

The LA Girl concealer is definitely the cheapest and for the price it has amazing quality! I love the coverage I get and $3 is a freaking steal! Mind you, they have so many shades anybody can use it! I highly recommend this product for beginners.

The one from NYX gives great coverage and its not super heavy and it blends out very easy. You can also find a great shade ranges.

The Maybelline concealer has a lighter more natural coverage so I don't tend to use it when I'm looking to BEAT my face, but its great for no makeup, makeup looks.

These are just some options that I have been using that I find really work for me, and are also from brands that I truly love.
They have great shade ranges for all skin tones, amazing products, and super affordable.

If there are some other drugstore products that I didn't mention go ahead and comment below. I could be missing out on some good stuff.

Part 2 coming soon!!
